Our Story
So I thought I might as well start a blog for the future Mr. and Mrs. Byington. I thought that I would start this out with a few back ground details about Taylor and I.
The first awkward meeting
So Taylor and I actually met during winter break of 2010 when I was home from school. I went to Sunday school with my mom and after the lesson was over she noticed a handsome young man sitting in front of us. My loving mother, decided to talk to him and introduce this handsome young man to her single daughter. After a couple minutes of small talk said between Taylor and I, I walked away without pursuing the opportunity to get to know this young man.
The first conversation
When I came home for the summer of 2011 I started going to the singles ward and FHE on and off. One FHE in the middle of May I was having a lovely conversation with a kid who was telling me all about how at a certain temperature, the skin can melt from the heat. As I was listening so intently to this one sided conversation I glanced over to notice Taylor laughing and staring in my direction, apparently he had been listening to this conversation. After our interesting discussion of melting skin had ended, Taylor came over to where I was sitting and started talking to me. We talked about our different likes and dislikes, and all that jazz. It was a really good conversation and he also asked for my phone number so he could "text me to play soccer." Yeah. He never texted me...
The first date
After about 2 or 3 weeks of Taylor never texting me back he came to a young single adult activity and asked me why I had never texted him back to play soccer. I replied saying that he never texted me. We talked about a couple other things here and there. After the activity I decided that a slurpee sounded so good, I pulled into the seven eleven to see Taylor just getting out of his car. What a coincidence. So we both when in together and got our slurpees, it took me two tries to fill mine. I dropped my first one. How embarrassing. After getting our slurpees we went outside and stood around talking for a minute and he asked me if I wanted to go watch a movie with him at his apartment. Why not? So that was our "unofficial" first date. Taylor felt bad for never texting me about soccer and he asked if he could take me on a motorcycle ride to Leavenworth. I knew right away that my parents would not be very comfortable with this. But after meeting him and talking to him, they let me go. From June till the end of July I don't think there was one day we spent without seeing each other.
The official couple
On July 26th 2011 Taylor finally built up the courage to kiss me. That was when we "officially" started dating. Not knowing the hard times that were in store for us. I didn't even want to think about going to school in September. Right then and for the rest of the semester it was just about Taylor and I.
The dreaded but amazing fall semester 2011
The time finally came to decide whether this was a relationship we wanted to do long distance. Our feelings for each other had definitely grown stronger and we both wanted to try this long distance. Over the semester we both felt good about how our relationship and how it was progressing. I had amazing roommates this semester which really helped me to focus on other things besides missing Taylor. Taylor was able to visit me a few times over the semester and one night while he was here he told me that he loved me. From that point forward I knew that he wanted this relationship to keep moving forward, and so did I. This semester had its ups and downs but our relationship was able to grow like no other while we were apart.
The engagement
So at the end of the fall semester Taylor drove to Rexburg to pick me up for Christmas break. We had previously talked about getting married and all that and we had been looking at rings one of the weekends he was here. When he got here I knew that he had ordered the ring and had to pick it up sometime. On December 15th (also my mom's birthday) there was just something off with Taylor. But I could not pin point it. In the late afternoon Taylor asked randomly if I wanted to go make snow angels. I told him that was quite impossible since there was no snow on the ground but he insisted and after more of my complaining I gave in. So we drove out to a golf course here in Rexburg and went to one of the greens where there was a tiny bit of snow. We took turns making snow angels and playing with the minimal amount of snow. Taylor then asked me if I wanted to go and get hot cocoa, of course I would not deny that! Before we were about to head back to the car he said, "before we go there is something I need to ask you." He knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I SAID YES!The winter 2012 semester
This has probably been the hardest semester here at BYU-Idaho. Being away from Taylor for three months was hard enough, but now being engaged and away from him for three months has definitely been the hardest. We also have different cell phone providers so we can not talk until nine his time and ten my time. Skype is an amazing invention which we both very much appreciate, most of the time... This has definitely been the hardest semester, but it is my very last! YAY! I get to see my love in 5 days!

You're story is soo cute! Can't wait to see you in your wedding dress and I know you will love marriage! Love you and glad we got to get together last night!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this. David and I had the same cell phone issue when we were in engaged. and so by the time I was able to talk to him after nine I had already talked to my mom and my roomates and all that jazz so by the time he called i never really wanted to repeat all of my stories and i was always so tired and sad I couldn't just see him. so our conversations were usually really short and ended with me throwing my phone across the room becasue I hated being so far away from him! luckily i had really good roomates that year!!
ReplyDeleteI love your story! So cute! I know its been hard to be away from him but you are nearing the end! I am so glad we got to be roommates last semester. It was so fun! I can't wait for us to roadtrip to your wedding, you will look gorgeous! Love you! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea Kailey. Krissy and I have done something similar and it has been allot of fun. We are low tech though and started on paper. I should encourage Taylor to tell your story from his point of view also. It is fun to read how things developed from both points of view. You may even learn something cute and even more endearing about him that he hasn't shared otherwise. I wish you two all the joy and happiness that eternal marriage brings.
